The results of our "Chili Sauce Day"

Researchers are saying that this year, more and more young people are preserving the bounty of the summer. I’m always encouraged when I see an interest in canning at home because it indicates people are becoming more interested in what goes into their food. Both my son and his wife make several batches of jam, salsa and the like. As well, each September for eleven years, my daughter-in-law and I have been getting together for a “Chili Sauce Day” in which we chop piles of tomatoes, onions, celery and peppers, combine them with cider vinegar, brown sugar and spices, and let it all burble away on the stove for three hours. When the sauce cooks down, we either watch a chick flick or sit and chat.
